Competitions
Although competitive level private lessons are mentally and physically challenging, they are still a lot of fun. At competitions, dancers are judged by diverse criteria, which we use as a guideline on these lessons. The criteria includes: poise, hold/frame, posture, musicality and expression, timing, body alignment and shape, foot and leg action, and presentation. The goal is to make you look, feel and dance your absolute best at a competitive level. Many of our professionals and students are champions and/or "up & coming" talent continuously receiving accolades and awards in their respective styles and categories at every competition that we have attended. This is testament to the high caliber of training that we offer.
Many people are also attracted to the "glitz and glamour" of these competitions. We also help our students look the part. American Smooth dances are costumed as would be appropriate for a white-tie affair, with full beaded gowns for the ladies and tuxedos, vests, and other creative outfits for the men. Latin/Rhythm dances, the women are often dressed in short-skirted latin outfits while the men are outfitted in tight-fitting shirts and pants, the goal being to emphasize the dancers' leg action and body movements. The most exciting thing about these competitions is the location. We try to make the most of these events by choosing competitions that are also hot destination spots, such as Las Vegas, Hollywood, San Francisco, and many others.
